i've been out of the new, modern gokin game for quite some time but when news broke that bandai had finally secured the rights to release a soul of chogokin golion/voltron, my ears perked up.
He is a robot that is operated by the combining of the 5 lions. Originally voltron was from an anime called golion but when brought here was changed a little and with it a whole new mythos was made. The origins of voltron vary from interpetation to interpetation.
Alternate character interpretation : keith and allura's relationship: are they the official couple , or merely a case of implied love interest ? there is some depending on the writer at play here, as while voltron in general seems to go for the former, golion on the other hand went with the latter. Yes, golion pretty much stated that keith/kogane's feelings for allura/fala were strictly platonic and that they were just friends , and that if anything the other guys in the voltron force were far more interested and attracted to the princess than keith/kogane was (voltron didn't exactly ignore that little aspect either, especially with pidge). However, the original voltron series did try to go for the former, but it can come off as the latter, especially at first. The american voltron animated shows like the new dimension and especially voltron force , on the other hand, are clearly going for the former.
Joshua hamilton may chan an expedition on the moon kerberos is attacked and the crew imprisoned by a hostile alien craft from the galra empire. On earth, they are presumed dead. Shiro is unable to remember anything from his captivity, but the group are able to determine that the galra are searching for a weapon known as "voltron". They find a large robotic blue lion in the desert and learn that it is only one of five lions that form voltron.
Honestly, i wish more these voltron remakes were willing to explore characters, lore, and plot lines outside the golion based season of the show. Logically, i get why this is. The golion based season of dotu was the big hit; it’s what made voltron one of the biggest children’s franchises of the 80s. The american produced season isn’t nearly as beloved or widely known. And vehicle voltron? why would these companies take the risk of incorporating parts of a show that flopped the first time around?.
Voltron: legendary defender is an animated web television series produced by american companies dreamworks animation and world events productions and animated by south korean studio mir. It is a reboot of both the beast king golion anime series and the voltron franchise, and its animation is a mix of anime-influenced traditional animation for characters and background and cgi for voltron action sequences. Voltron: legendary defender is set in a science fiction universe where planetary energy called "quintessence" can be used to power vehicles and magic. The series follows the adventures of the paladins of voltron who must learn to work together to form the giant robot voltron and use it to defeat the evil galra empire.
The ’80s run of voltron was adapted from a japanese mecha anime series called beast king golion. While the original japanese series split the voltron story into three arcs, the american series ran them all as one show. Here are the characters that persisted throughout the entire show.

voltron force is set in a time period five to seven years after the events of the original 1980s voltron series. Lotor was killed by the voltron force as the result of voltron destroying doom castle. Voltron is celebrated on earth for the destruction of lotor and his forces. However, due to the actions of sky marshall wade, a corrupt official in the galaxy alliance, the robot lions are immediately outcast and separated with the black lion locked away in galaxy alliance hq while the other lions are sealed on the planet arus, the home of princess allura.
Can be forced apart if it takes too much damage. Forming voltron takes a large amount of power, and the lions need to be recharged after every battle. Its pilots lack experience, and haven't unlocked voltron's full arsenal yet. If another paladin has a strong enough bond with one of the lions, they can take control of voltron.
Unlike the past versions of keith, this version does not pilot the black lion but the red lion , and he is not the leader of the voltron lion force. Although should anything happen to shiro, he is the new leader of voltron. Keith is in his late teens. Keith's human ethnicity is unknown. What is known about his father's background is that he highly resembles keith, possesses a rather mild southern accent, and appeared to be in his mid-thirties in keith's vision of him.
Voltron and the individual lions are capable of self-repair which helps to prolong their survivability in fights. Strong enough to withstand the heat and force of atmospheric re-entry like it was nothing. Withstood the gravitational force of the omega comet. Tanked the attacks of the galaxy alliance fleet while stuck on the omega comet.

" a long time ago, in this galaxy far, far away, a group of scientists on the planet arus created a robot named voltron as the ultimate defense system. But bad guy zarkon had it out for the robot, and after being defeated several times in his futile attempts, he sent his witch haggar to do his dirty work for him. Disguising herself as a goddess in distress, haggar put a curse on voltron that split him into five lion-shaped pieces and forced him into hibernation. Lucky for voltron, a band of space explorers came along sometime around the 25th century and discovered the five sleeping lions. And none too soon, as zarkon had already established his reign over the galaxy.
Voltron is a giant guardian robot formed from the combined power of five robot lions. Each lion embodies one of five elemental forces: water, land, fire, sky, and forest. The black lion, largest of the group, forms the torso and head of voltron, the blue and yellow lions form the legs, and the smaller red and green lions form the arms. With all five lions combined, their respective traits and capabilities merge to create a single cohesive combat unit greater than the sum of its parts.

Conception[ edit ] sven is actually a combination of two characters in beast king go lion. Takashi shirogane was the original blue lion pilot who was killed in episode 6, and ryou shirogane, takashi's brother. Since they looked alike, wep simply decided that sven would survive the events of episode 6 and be treated as if they were the same character. In voltron: legendary defender sven made an appearance in season 3 of the show. Josh keaton only discovered that the character had a scandinavian accent the day before the recording.
Voltron defender of the universe[ edit ] sven was part of exploratory team sent by the galaxy alliance to planet arus. He was captured and sent to planet doom. After escaping planet doom he got to planet arus and became so pilot of the blue lion. Sometime later sven saved lance from an attack from witch haggar. His injuries resulted in sven being sent to a space hospital and eventually being replaced by princess allura , ruler of the planet arus. Sven reunited with the voltron force where they helped romelle escape planet doom.

Keith is a main character in voltron: legendary defender and is the pilot of the red lion. A man of few words, keith is the red paladin and the swordsmen of team voltron. He was an orphan who spent the majority of his days living in a small house in the middle of a desert, often searching the nearby mountain range for the truth about the blue lion.

Initially, the plan was for keith to have teeth that looked like fangs and white hair that he dyed different colors. The eighth and final season of voltron: legendary defender was released on december 14, 2018. Like many other fans, i stayed up with friends to binge the whole season at midnight as soon as it came out. Also, like many in the fandom, i came away from voltron season 8 stunned & sad, rather than enjoying a satisfactory conclusion to what had so far been a truly wonderful series.

On the surface the paladin’s handbook, a voltron legendary defender tie in guide, looks to be a just a bit of harmless fun for kids. Parents need to know that voltron: legendary defender is a remake of the 1980s series voltron and follows the original story fairly closely, telling of a futuristic clash between good and evil over control of a five-part weapon called voltron. It features exceptional action sequences, well-developed character stories, and the visual polish fans have come to expect from dreamworks. Expect a lot of fighting, both in air battles (shooting, explosions, crashes) and in some hand-to-hand exchanges (punching, kicking). The show's villains might frighten young and/or sensitive viewers, but the heroes are the essence of regular people inspired to greatness by extraordinary circumstances. The Lions of Voltron
Coran : former royal adviser to the altean royal family and chief engineer of the castle of lions; also one of the last survivors of planet altea. King alfor the great : allura's father and the previous ruler of altea responsible for sending the lions to the far corners of the universe for protection before dying in the altean genocide by the galra. Alfor was the creator of the voltron lions as well as the original paladin of the red lion.
When altea was attacked by zarkon's galra empire 10,000 years ago, allura's father, king alfor , chose to hide the voltron lions and allura, rather than have voltron formed to battle their enemy as allura suggested. Altea was ultimately lost as a result of alfor's actions, with only the six residents of the castle of lions being known to survive the tragedy. After her father put her to sleep, she was placed in a sleeping pod where she spent the next ten millennia in stasis.
Voltron is the giant robot created from the combination of all five voltron lions it has been ten thousand years since it was last formed, and its return is brought about when shiro returns to earth a year after his capture by the galra empire, drawing keith, lance, hunk, and pidge together to locate the blue lion and use it to find the castle of lions on arus. They reawaken its sleeping inhabitants, princess allura and coran, and these last living alteans help locate the subsequent lions to form voltron and defend the universe against zarkon's empire.
The first season largely provided all of the set-up for the series. Much of the 13 episodes were filled with backstory for each of the main characters, but also a lot of exposition for just where voltron came from. Related: voltron: 10 things you didn’t know about pidge ordinarily, exposition can bog episodes down, but for the freshman season, the exposition worked. The series had lighter moments, like a food fight prompting the team to learn cooperation. It also had plenty of drama as each member of the team got the spotlight while they connected with one of the lions of voltron. Of course, the first season also ended with a cliffhanger, leaving the audience coming back for more.

Shiro was also known to be among the most skilled in hand-to-hand combat among the paladins. Shiro's lean and muscular build marks him as possessing incredible athletic abilities that allow him to rival even the likes of hunk in terms of raw strength, and is able to duck and dodge with great agility and grace, rivaling keith's speed, pidge's balance, and lance's precision. Shiro's greatest asset is his superb tactical mind and leadership skills, allowing him to take on stronger foes such as myzax in both the gladiator pit and on arus within voltron. Shiro regularly and skillfully inspires his team with his charismatic personality and indomitable spirit and is able to bring them from the depths of defeat and ignite their will to win, thus allowing them to push back with the strength of a true army while acting as one. He is also skilled in military tactics, which is how he learned the guards' routines aboard the prison ship where he was held. Shiro is also skilled at reading the tactical weaknesses of others, devising plans based on their weak points, and often drawing out fights against stronger foes to learn any and all possible faults in their fighting styles and move sets.
